Am I Required To Get Rental Car Insurance If I Don't Have My Own ...

By law, rental companies must provide the state required amount of liability insurance. Generally, these amounts are low and do not provide much protection. Often the state mandated minimum is $20,000 per person / $40,000 per accident. If you are responsible for paying for someone?s injury because of an at fault accident how far do you think $20,000 would go? After the $20,000 is paid out the bills go to you. (ouch!) You are not required to purchase the LDW ? Loss Damage Waiver but then you are responsible for any damage to the vehicle, If the car is stolen you will be buying them a new car. However you might want to check your credit card they may offer some limited coverage (but don?t forget to use that card when you are renting the car)
